About Me

Hi! My name is Dallas.

For three years I blogged about finding sources for local foods in Southwestern Ontario under the name of Southwestern Ontario Foodie. During that time I visited many farms, frequented various markets and made many seasonal recipes. As of June 2012, however, things changed. My family made a move out to Nova Scotia!

As a result of the move I had to change the name of my blog and eventually settled on 'Eating Real, Being Real in Nova Scotia'. I wanted the name to (1) be regional, (2) make some sort of reference to eating 'real' food, and (3) to also signify my goal to live simply and 'real'. The blog will still have a focus on local farmers and foods, but will also have more posts about living a homemade life and about my family's various adventures in our new province. We look forward to doing a lot more hiking, biking, snowshoeing, and fishing among other fun and exciting things. I can guarantee that there will also be many picnics by the sea too. Oh! And clam digging too!!

So who does my family consist of? Well, there's my husband... We are highschool sweethearts and have been together since the mid-1990's (wow! - that's 18 years!). We have one child together - she's 8. She is the center of our world and I couldn't imagine my life without her in it.

I recently decided to register for the Holistic Nutrition Course through The Canadian School of Natural Nutrition to one day (hopefully by next year) be a Registered Holistic Nutritionist. This is something that I have wanted to do for a long time and the time has finally come. I'm very excited!!

I think that's all for now... If you'd like to reach me please send me a note at eatrealberealns@hotmail.com. I love receiving feedback and hearing from my readers. Do you know of a great farm or restaurant that I should try out? Is there a hiking trail that you love that I should check out? How about a nice beach? Let me know! I'd love to know about it.
